Gregory R. Istre, M.D.

Gregory R. Istre, M.D., is Medical Director of the Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dallas. He is also a practicing pediatric infectious disease specialist in Dallas. His training includes residencies in Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine, and a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He also received training in Epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Epidemic Intelligence Service. He served as State Epidemiologist for the State of Oklahoma, where he was responsible for communicable disease control for the state, and started one of the first injury prevention programs at a state health department in 1987. He was President of the US Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists from 1989-1990, and is now retired from private practice Pediatric Infectious Disease. He has authored more than 75 publications dealing with epidemiology, infectious diseases, and injury prevention. He is the recipient of several awards, including the National Epidemiology Award in 1994. His research interests focus on residential fire-related injuries, pedestrian injuries, falls, and motor vehicle-related injuries.
